I Visit
Britain’s largest National Park, the Cairngorms National Park was granted this status in 2003. The boundaries of the Park encompass a veritable treasure chest of villages to visit, each ‘jewel’ offering something unique to the visitor. These are definitely ‘community aware’ villages, with the tangible air of timeless, hard won, achievement against the battle for very existence, evident in their well-tended appearance.
There is a wealth of diverse attractions to enjoy from local crafts, paintings, sculpture, woodcarving, pottery workshops (yes, you may take part!), to local ‘cottage’ industries and museums not to mention all the beautiful gardens to enjoy.
Scotland’s villages enjoy some of the most wonderful floral displays to be found anywhere in Britain. Retail therapy, naturally, is high on the list of pursuits. Many of the villages in the Park also form the famous Whisky Trail, not to be missed. Whatever you may have heard, or read about Scotland you will not be disappointed, but certainly return home enriched by the experience.
